Abass rescues Kotoko

Abass Mohammed came off the bench to rescue Asante Kotoko from defeat at home to Aduana Stars on Wednesday.

Aduana showed grit and dominated the Porcupines at the Baba Yara Stadium, but were left disappointed after departing Kumasi with only a single point.

The Dormaa lads took the lead in the 25th minute through winger Sam Adams.

Kotoko were handed a chance to pull level four minutes later after Prince Acquah’s shot struck the hand of defender Stephen Anokye Badu. But their former goalkeeper Joseph Addo denied them the equaliser as he palmed away Kwame Boateng’s penalty strike.

Boateng was substituted in the second half with lanky striker Abass Mohammed, who went on to make an instant impact. He grabbed the equaliser three minutes after coming on with a free-kick.

The result stretched the Porcupines’ winless streak to six games while Aduana were also stretched by leaders Wafa SC who beat Liberty 2-1 at home. Aduana are now on 26 points in second place.
