Hearts, Kotoko reignite rivalry on Monday

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak will reignite their longstanding rivalry in a cup tie to mark Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary.

The two most successful clubs will face off over two legs – first on Monday, 1 May and then on 28 May at the Accra Sports Stadium and Baba Yara Sports Stadium respectively.

Both Kotoko and Hearts will receive GH50,000 as appearance fees while the aggregate winner after the two legs will take home a glittering trophy and an additional GH50,000.

“This is our diamond jubilee, so we have accepted this grand fixture to celebrate our diamond jubilee. I expect you to do everything to make sure that the match is competitive and exciting,” Ken Amankwah, chairman of the Ghana@60 Planning Committee told both clubs.

Monday’s game kicks off at 15:00GMT but will be preceded by two curtain-raisers – one between retired players of both Hearts and Kotoko as well as another game involving members of the physically challenged national team, Black Giants.
