The Head coach of Derby County and former player of Chelsea FC, Frank lampard has issued a special message on how crucial Didier Drogba was during their time at Stamford Bridge.

Didier Drogba retired from football at the age of 40 following an illustrious career with huge trophies.

The peak years of his career was nine seasons across two spells winning four premier league titles and the famous champions league triumph in 2012 with Chelsea.

Lampard who was pivotal alongside Drogba in the most successful years of Chelsea’s history paid a tribute to his former team mate through his instagram handle.

“Congratulations @didierdrogba (Drogba) on what has been an absolutely outstanding career.

It was a privilege and honour to play alongside you. Your work ethic and desire to improve every single day inspired me and all of us more than you would know. Those rainy days were we stayed behind and had awkward balls fired into us to touch and finish are some of my best memories.

You were the man that always delivers on the big stage and all of us @chelseafc should give a huge thank you to you for always stepping up when it mattered.

That’s what made you the ‘king’. More than that Didi (drogba) you are a giant of a man. Strong, loyal, unselfish, positive, humble.

I could go on. Thank you Didi for all that you did for me and good luck for whatever you choose to do now, it will be a success because that’s how you are.

Lastly, special thanks for getting your head on that in Munich (champions league goal) because I was head down, eyes shut behind you.”
