Richard Sekyere, a Ghanaian student in Russia, has arrived in Ghana, to participate in the 2019 Kwahu Easter Mountain Marathon (KEMM), fixed for Saturday, April 20.

Sekyere, who touched down two weeks ago, has been training on the mountains in Kwahu, to prepare for the unique marathon that has so far attracted a lot of international interest.

The 42.2 kilometer race, which would commence at Nkawkaw, would see athletes race through the mountains to Obomeng, Mpraeso, Bepong, back to Mpraeso, Nkwatia, Abetifi, with the finish point at the Kwahuhene Palace in Abene.

Sekyere, a third year Electrical Engineering and Electronic student of Volgograd Agrarian University, Russia, told the GNA Sports, in an interview that, he was in Ghana purposely to participate in the Marathon.

According to Sekyere, he was thrilled by the nature of the marathon, as it presents athletes with a unique opportunity to build fitness and endurance.

“I have done several marathons over the past, but I think this event is unique. Anyone who participates and completes the race is capable of performing better anywhere in the world.

“I can confidently say that, Kwahu Easter Mountain Marathon is one of the best marathons in the world,” he added.

Sekyere, who is also in Ghana to prepare the grounds for the inauguration of One Mission Athletics Club in Ghana, to train the youth to take up athletics as a profession said, he would relocate to Kwahu after school in order to take advantage on the unique mountains for training.

According to the Sekyere, who was voted Athlete of the Year two consecutive times in his school in Russia, his major aim for competing in the Marathon, was to have fun and enjoy the unique mountain.

“Sometimes it is not just about the prize at stake, but to boost fitness, improve your health and above all have fun,” he added.

Sekyere, becomes the fourth international athlete to have registered for the competition with three others from Kenya.
