Andre Dede Ayew, midfielder for Turkish giants, Fenerbahçe is set to be named the captain of the senior national team, the Black Stars.
Information gathered by the GNA Sports indicates, head coach of the Black Stars Kwasi Appiah has made Ayew his new captain ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt next month, following the retirement of substantive captain Asamoah Gyan.
Gyan retired on Monday, May 20, following the decision of the coach to strip him of the captain’s band.
The Black Stars former deputy captain, Ayew scored five goals, with two assists in 38 appearances for his club in the 2018/2019 season.
The source however denied reports that, coach Appiah stripped off the captain’s armband off Gyan as a result of spiritual connotations.
