Lakers star LeBron James will sit out Sunday against the Nuggets as he deals with a nagging ankle injury, coach Frank Vogel said. James is day to day moving forward.

James missed Tuesday and Thursday’s games with a left ankle sprain but played Friday. He injured his ankle a week ago in the Lakers’ 116-108 loss to New Orleans by landing on the foot of Pelicans forward Jaxson Hayes. Before he hit the floor, his left ankle bent at a 90-degree angle.

The 18-time All-Star put up 38 points in a 114-111 loss to the Pelicans Friday.

Los Angeles (31-46) is currently on the brink of missing the playoffs, sitting in 11th — one game out of the Play-In Tournament, behind the Spurs — in the Western Conference.
