Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has insisted that he has not made a decision on whether he will leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer, but noted that there are “new elements” in play.
His comments came after PSG’s 5-1 win over Lorient on Sunday evening, in which Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe all scored in the same game for the first time. Mbappe scored the second and third goals of the match.
PSG made a splash in last summer’s transfer window, building a team which looked capable of winning the Champions League by signing Messi, Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Achraf Hakimi. However, they were embarrassingly knocked out of the competition at the round of 16 stage after giving up a two-goal aggregate lead to Real Madrid.
Questions about Mbappe’s future have swirled throughout the season, with the 23-year-old heavily linked to Madrid.
Final Sports understands he has rejected at least two new contract offers from PSG, and Madrid are now convinced they will get their man in the summer after having at least one bid rejected last summer.
PSG want to keep him and are thought to be flexible on exactly how, with one possible solution being a short-term contract extension to protect his value and buy more time.
Asked about his future by Amazon Prime after PSG’s win, Mbappe replied: “I haven’t made a decision but there are new elements.
“If I had made a decision I would have said it, I would have fronted up. I always front up. I don’t have to hide. I want to make the best possible decision. But it’s not an easy decision.”
He then added: “Is it possible to stay at PSG? Yes, of course.”
PSG’s next game is against Clermont on Saturday evening.
